Domestic Violence: 6 Ways Celebrities are Raising Awareness, and How You Can Help
October 28, 2015October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and AAUW isn’t alone in recognizing everyone’s right to healthy, happy, and safe relationships — on campus, in our homes, and at work. Over the past year, several celebrities have used their voice as a platform for awareness and advocacy on this critical issue.
You might not be able to write your own song or PSA about it, but there are still ways that you can help end domestic violence and sexual assault. Find out how to get involved at the bottom of this post.
Warning: Some of these videos include discussion and depictions of sexual assault, domestic violence, and their effects and aftermath in ways that may be emotionally upsetting.

AAUW is a proud collaborator with this campaign, now in its second year, which asks people to pledge to actively participate in being a solution to domestic violence. This latest public service announcement features Zoe Saldana, Nina Dobrev, the Haim sisters, Minka Kelly, Jessica Szohr, and other stars.
2. Until It Happens to You by Lady Gaga

4. Steel Here by Tisha Campbell Martin

Martin bravely performs in this music video with the apology of her attacker written on her chest.
5. A Little Note by Laura Baron
Watch video on YouTube
Baron’s song depicts the story of a woman who breaks free from an abusive relationship.
6. Take Your Time by Sam Hunt

Hunt refuses to be a bystander in this video (though physical intervention isn’t usually the best answer outside of a music video).
Feeling motivated to make change? Even though we observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, our efforts to end sexual assault and violence are, and should be, year-round.
